IMG BASEBALL CAMP

Mitch,
Our experience was great at the IMG Baseball Camp. It is quite a facility they have there. Both of my sons attended, and stayed in the dorms. Both boys were shocked to find out that this was real baseball. This was not a camp with a bunch of games, with prizes and such. The boarded buses at 8:00 a.m. every morning. Other than a break for lunch, it was baseball from 8:00-5:00. They worked on every aspect of the game, as well as gave time to concentrate on one or two particular positions.

I met the director there, Kit Carlson. He was a great guy. He gave us a tour of the facility and was very helpful.

In all it was a great experience. I would not suggest that boys under ten stay in the dorms however. There were several kids of all ages in there with them. I would make sure it was clear to kids that this is real baseball. All day in 90 degree weather. It took a few days for the boys to get adjusted.

All in all I believe that they came away with a much better understanding of the game of baseball. We hope to return. Even with the free admission, it got pretty pricy with hotels, food, gas etc.. We are saving our money with hopes of returning. If you have any connections with free admissions again, please let me know. I would be glad to volunteer to do anything you need in order to help increase my chances of getting one.

Thank you for allowing us this opportunity. Both of my boys 12, and 8, enjoyed themselves. It was a memory that will last a lifetime.

Regards,
Bobby Westfall

Mitch,

My player that I sent had a great experience. He said that the coaches were top notch and that the facility was awesome. It was a really good experience for him to get out and meet other athletes from not only the US but all over the world. Thanks again for the prize.

Thanks,
Mike Kirk

MANAGERS/COACHES & BUSINESS MANAGERS MEETING (Seminar or Conference)

I highly recommend this conference for coaches at all levels. Mitch Sacks and the Sandlot America Umpire Group has done a great job organizing this event. The conference is held at Prasco’s 1st class facility and the new Prasco baseball stadium (home of the Cincinnati Spikes) is a must see!

Hi Mitch

I attended, along with the other 6 managers of my other Mustang teams. Found it very enlightening, especially the obscure baseball situations. Just wanted you to know the Mustangs appreciate you coordinating this event.

REDS RBI TOURNAMENT @ GREAT AMERICAN BALLPARK

Mitch,

I just wanted to send you my personal thanks for a job well done. You and your crew did a positively fantastic job handling our tournament. I've heard nothing but rave reviews. All our games were handled in a most professional manner.

The games on Monday, as well as all others, went off like clock work. I enjoyed watching the crews at GABP. I would have thought I was watching a major league crew.

I know I had a chance to thank many of the umpires during the week. But since I don't have a full email list, please let them know how much the Reds, and yes I, appreciated their professional work. I'm counting on at least another two years of Sandlot America covering our regional tournament.

If I could, I'd like to ask one thing of you. We will be debriefing on the tournament activities over the next couple weeks. If you or any of your crew have input on how we can improve our tournament, please get that data to me.

Thanks again!!!

Bill

INCREDIBLE UMPIRE EXPERIENCES

I just wanted to pass along two great experiences I had from the tournament I ran out at Flash Fields over the 4th of July weekend.  I am sending this message to all 70 teams in the 12u SWOL, all of the Flames coaches, and all of the other SWOL age level coordinators.
My tournament had 22 teams from all over the Midwest,  I had teams from Michigan, Illinois, New York, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, and Oklahoma.  When you run a tournament like this you can plan and prepare and do everything in your power to keep the teams happy, but there are two things that you have no control over.  The umpires and the facilities.

At the end of the tournament the umpires and the facilities turned out to be the BEST thing about the tournament.  Every team left this tournament happy, and if it weren’t for the efforts of Mitch Sacks and the Sandlot Umpire Crew, and Mike Daly, Junior Atkins, and Chad Ward and the Flash Fields crew I never would have pulled off this tournament with NO unhappy teams.

First of all the facilities at Flash Fields are to incredible to describe.   The fields are impeccable, the viewing deck for games around all 5 fields is certainly one of a kind, and the food at the concession stand was reasonably priced and good!  But where the Flash guys went above and beyond is in the field maintenance.  I had 60 games scheduled into a tight schedule over 4 days.  With over two inches of rain, (rain from Saturday at 3 PM until Sunday at 5 AM) I only missed a total of 4 games!   That is truly incredible, and would never have been done without the efforts of Mike Daley, Junior Atkins, Chad Ward and the rest of the 20 man crew.  They were on the fields at 5:00  in the morning on Sunday to make sure my teams could have a great experience.

If you ever need a place to run a tournament, or if you are looking for a place to play in a unique tournament, I encourage you to check out Flash Fields it is absolutely an awesome place. www.flashbaseball.org

And Last but not least the umpires.   I have now been the tournament director for two tournaments (one with 44 teams, one with 22 teams) this year totaling almost 200 games.  I can name on one hand the number of umpire complaints I received, and the complaints were mostly petty stuff that go in one ear and out the other.  If you have ever run a tournament you know that this is an INCREDIBLY low number of umpire complaints.  In fact I have received COUNTLESS comments on how great the umpires were.   All of the members of the he Sandlot crew are professional, on time, and fundamentally fantastic umpires.  Again when people go out of their way to say how good the umpires are at your tournament, you know you have a good thing going.

If you are running a big tournament, or if your organization needs umpires, and you want to make a great impression, you will be thrilled if you use Mitch Sacks and the Sandlot America Umpire crew.

Mitch,

I wanted to write you a note to let you know what a fantastic job you and your crew did this weekend. With 44 teams, 8 fields, a day of rain, and a lot of emotional parents, coaches, and one emotional coordinator your guys were top notch.

I have had several teams go out of their way to tell me how great your guys were, and several teams tell me the umpires were the best they have had in Cincinnati.

Thank you very much for keeping that worry out of my hands.

Thank you for adjusting your schedules on the fly with all of the weather issues, and thank you especially for the HIGH quality of umpires that were assigned, they were all first rate.

4th OF JULY TOURNAMENT

Mitch,

Just wanted to send you a note to tell you how well things went with the tournament, despite Mother Nature trying to knock us out. We had a few glitches, but ALL the umpires were super to work with. Had some old favorites, and some new "Rookies" that hadn't done our tournaments before, but everyone seemed to have a great time. We greatly appreciate how you work with us to send us quality umpires and we had very few complaints from anyone. We had one umpire not show, but one was there that hadn't gotten the message he was cancelled for friday night. We had another caught in traffic Saturday, but one came early, so every game was covered. And most communicated with us to keep things rolling.

Great Job!
